End of the Year… December 12, 2007

Well it’s been a year already, I can’t believe it! I feel like we have done so much. Many people are in new positions like Troy on A1 and his son is helping with monitors, or Greg on M1 now. I hope that in the coming months more people want to try new things. I feel like things are really moving along. We have expanded the sound cage, moved the subs on the main floor, started a saturday night service, and have installed ProTOOLS HD at FOH! I really want to thank all of you for making all this happen, especially Bob Rice, who has put in countless hours to help make things better. But, with a new year comes new challenges. I really want to work on system tuning in the coming weeks. I feel like we can get this system sounding even better. So, how can you help. Well every sunday your here sitting in the seats, listen and let me know how it sounds to you. Even better, sit in a different place each week and listen for the differences around the room… I think, with your input, we can make it sound better than ever.  In closing, I hope you all have a Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year, and a blessed beginning to 2008…

Comming into Fall for SoundTEAM August 26, 2007

There is a ton happening this fall. First, we are beginning Saturday night services at DeKalb on Sept. 8th. The Service will be at 6:15 Pm and call time will be 4:30 PM. I know this might be a hard commitment, I am working on finding a fourth person for DeKalb so that it eases the load. But, in the next month or two, I hope we can all step up and fill the gaps…
Second, we are starting a Saturday night service at St. Charles. It will begin on September 15th in the Sanctuary, but will be in the Chapel after that. Walter Harvey is managing the sound for that service every week. If anyone wants to help on saturday (in addition to sunday) please contact Walter. But, I ask that you make Sunday your first priority, we can’t afford to lose anyone. He will be forming an independent team for Sat. nights.

Please Email me with any dates you know you can’t serve for the next few months. I will be making the schedules soon…

If anyone is available please let me know. I’ll get some exact times when they are given to me, but I expect 8AM to about 11PM. Should be a fun day…

A new Idea! April 19, 2007

Here is something I would like to try. I would like to have the M2 relieve the A1 during the message on Sundays. So M2′s take a good coffee break during the worship and then come out and see if the A1 needs a break. Over the next few weeks, please meet with the A1 for training on the VENUE for the message. I think this will be a great time for some other people to get their hands on the VENUE and also get more comfortable with FOH.

I am also looking to add another person to the A1 position. I am not going to drop any names like say TROY or TIM, but if anyone wants to start working on that I think it would be great!!!

Well I have some awesome news. God has blessed us in a huge way. Next week we will take delivery of 2 new sound boards for our remote campuses.
2 Yamaha LS9-32 digital consoles. We have been praying for this for some time and now we are seeing the fruits of that prayer. We will install the first one at DeKalb the week after Easter. The second will be installed at Blackberry the first week in May. I will be at DeKalb for the first Sunday. Ray, Darren and Tim and welcome to come out on Thursday and/or Sunday to start learning the board. Then over the following few weeks we will have some training sessions for all the Blackberry guys at DeKalb. We will be constructing a rolling cart for the console at Blackberry so that it can be located on the floor and be rolled into the electrical room when not in use. I will be getting in touch with you all about training dates and times ASAP.
If you want to read up on the console before then, go to: http://www.yamahaproaudio.com/products/mixers/ls9/index.html

Some new Stuff March 17, 2007

Well the last few weeks have been great. We have made some big leaps in the CCC Sound Ministry. The first change was bringing the ashley graphic EQ’s from St Charles out to Dekalb for Monitor EQ’s. I think this is a much better fit than the digital processors that were out there, and it gave us 2 processors for future use. The second refit up I like to mention is the addition of 4 more monitor channels at Black Berry for a new total of 6. It was long coming, but it’s finally done. I’d like to thank Chuck White and Bob Rice for their time and effort in installing them. I hope that this will make the sound team and the worship team there much more effective. We also got rid of some bad cables and cleaned things up over there. Just to say it again. If anyone comes across a bad cable PLEASE throw it out unless it is really important or you think it’s worth saving. Please also email me with any shortages of cables, batteries, tape, mic stands, mic clips, power cables, and anything else you can think of. We are all doing an awesome job with all the new sound needs and processes. If you have any questions please let me know. I hope to have another training day on EQ’s, Compressors, and Effects soon. Also, the week after Easter is going to be spring cleaning at St. Charles. Tuesday and Wednesday night I will be ordering some food and we will be cleaning and organizing the Projector room and tech loft. Come out and fellowship with the team and help us find some new uses for unused gear. I am really going to push us to using everything we have to the fullest. If you have any ideas, pleas don’t keep them to your self’s.

Well it’s finally the week of the hard launch at BB. We have had some problems with the video system and have not used the center screen yet. Please pray that all will go well on Sunday. As far as sound goes, we have it all running smooth. We installed one of the DigiTools processors to sync the audio and video up. Also, Bob R and I installed some ceiling speakers in the lobby for the overflow and coffee shop. We will be installin some new power amp in a few weeks to add 2 more aux sends. If you could all pray for this Sunday, God has it all in control and it will go how he wants it…

The DigiTools Processor has been installed in the monitor system at St. Charles. Thanks go to Troy for the great idea, and to Bob Rice for helping in the install. I think this is going to work out great. It will give us the abilty to EQ, Limit, and Save the settings on all 8 channels of Monitors. Also, some other good news is that all 8 channels of Monitors are working again. Apparently the problem was in the EQ cabling that we removed. If you would like to read about the DigiTools interface, here is a link to the site. – DigiTools Site

I just wanted to let all of you know about what were doing at creaive arts day. The first breakout for sound will be in the auditorium and we will be discussing monitors. We will also go over the new sound check process, and talk about some changes in the M2 position. In the second Breakout for sound, Bob Rice will give a demo of the VENUE (FOH Console) and ProTools, then everyone will have a chance to “play” with the Board. You will be able to try mixing with ProTools playback. The third breakout will be a lot of fun. We will be providing sound suport for the Worship Dept. while they run a worship workshop on the stage. The band is going to be changing ever few minutes, so there won’t be any shortage of action. Everyone will have a chance to try FOH or monitors for a few minutes and really get some hands on training. I hope you can all make it on the 10th. The $20 fee is to cover lunch and the guest speaker and artists… See you there…
